Nearly a decade ago, Ellie Blanchard’s loyalty to her friend, Carter, had been misunderstood by her lover, his brother, Cal Jennings. After several long minutes, Cal sends one of the security team after her, whether to make sure that she is all right or that she actually does leave, is unclear. Cruz Montoya is a fine specimen of a man and he sweeps Ellie off her feet – as he carries her to her car and drives her home where he administers first aid. They feel a mutual attraction and Ellie agrees to a date before he leaves to return to work.
But late that night Cal comes by and demands that Ellie let him in. He says that he doesn’t want anything to do with her, but he can’t seem to stay away. Ellie has finally found a man who interests her and is ready to date again - will Cal ruin it for her?

I have a few authors on my “instant buy” list. You know, the list of authors who you stalk and haunt the shelves for so the minute a new book is available, you pounce? Yes, this author is on that list. I know I’m guaranteed a story with real people, honest emotions and cheek-blushing heat… All the cheeks. This story was no exception!Things open with a bang as Ellie Blanchard and Cal Jennings meet up again and things don’t go well, at all. Cal is rich and influential so when he lets his emotions get the better of him, and Ellie feels the brunt of his wrath, she has to deal with the aftermath with no helping hand. Their history brought them to this moment and as the two re-connect after many years it is easy to see why there are such strong, unresolved feelings between them. As former lovers do they hate each other, love or desire one another? Or maybe it’s a raw mix of all of the above…
Ellie is stubborn, she’s had to be to endure what she has under Cal’s strong-handed influence. Despite that, she’s determined to finally move forward in her life. She deserves to be happy even if Cal seems to think otherwise. She is a lot more patient then I could be as she deals with his animosity and distrust. The back and forth between them shows there is emotion on both sides despite her wish to move on and his seeming need to live in the past. The chemistry between these strong characters is emotionally-charged in a sexy story that reminds me why I enjoy this author so much!

This was real good at engaging my emotions and I felt quite strongly about what happened in the story. As Elise said at one point 'Cruz was every bit the gentleman that Cal had pretended to be.' Unlike Elise I would have given Cruz a chance as she was attracted to him and Cal did one too many despicable things for my liking. He didn't deserve her, Elise was way too forgiving. A leopard doesn't change its spots.
There is a significant flashback that serves as the middle of the book, and it provides most of the exposition on the relationship between the H and h. Before that, there is an assault on the h from a man, an approach by a second man, and the first man barges in to sleep with the h. After the flashback, the second man never gets resolution, and the resolution between the h and the H(?- he's just not redeemed IMHO), is rather weak, and chronologically far off from the other events. 3.5 stars.
Ashley had taken her BFF Ellie to a party in the hopes of meeting someone rich. But the party was being thrown by Cal Jennings with whom Ellie had a sensual/fiery History with. They had not parted on the best of terms! In fact, Cal threw his ex-lover out of the Function where she sprained her ankle. Cruz Montoya part of the security force was tasked to escort Ellie home with the false hope of starting a relationship. However, Cal's emotions returned or really never left overwhelmed the budding romance and their torrid affair continued. But always in the background, was Ellie's relationship with Cal's brother and once more the lovers ended the affair with serious misunderstandings. When Ashley finally pins down her fiancé and they get married, Ellie is there as the maid-of-honour. Once more she comes into contact with Cal Jennings who is the Best Man. As developments abound, nothing conquers anything like the feelings of true love. Love happy endings!
This story is such a roller coaster ride but in the best possible way! Cal could really be such a jerk but I have to say he redeemed himself at the end. His journey with Elise kept me on the edge of my seat hoping things would work out and the end made me cry! Absolutely loved it! I hope Cruz gets his own story...hint hint
This is a story that takes place over about ten years of Elise "Ellie" Blanchard and McCallum "Cal" Jennings. There are so many emotions of trust and distrust, his obsession and control and his failure to listen and believe. She gave him her trust, her heart and virginity, believing they had something very special, she was his submissive and he her Dom. His self-centered egotistical attitude and blaming her for something that wasn't her fault destroys them.
The plot is extremely emotional, full of angst and anger. It is a story that starts out in the present and then goes back eight years and works up to the present again.
I love this author, so was delighted to read a new book from her. Then I read the first few pages and was caught up short. Was Cal redeemable? Why did Ellie care for him at all? Then the author told the back story of their relationship and it was hot!!! Lots of discipline, lots of love, and finally an HEA. A great read. My only qualm with the story, was the introduction of what seemed to be an interesting character, Cal. He seems important to the story and then completely disappeared. Hopefully, the author has future plans for Cal.
This is a little different than a regular Carolyn faulkner book. Cal is a jerk at the beginning because of issues between him and Ellie. There are a lot of unresolved issues between them. They work things out, but it takes time. There is a HEA once Cal gets his head out of his butt. As always, there is a lot of discipline. I give this 4 stars.
